making daily life doable

  • Organizing Through Changes in Life

Our lives are filled with changes. If you generally consider yourself an organized person, there still may be times when you are overwhelmed by chaos and can’t seem to think how you got there, let alone how you are going to get out of it. Why do you feel disorganized now when you didn’t before?…

  • Drawing the Line for Better Organization

As you begin to get organized, the first thing to focus on is the ceasing of accumulation. In other words, be careful as to what you bring into the house. Don’t add to the clutter as you try to get rid of the clutter. You need to draw the line somewhere. Here are some good…

  • Three Habits for a Year of Being Organized

It’s a new year with new resolutions. What is it this year? Lose weight? Write that novel? Get a better job or become an entrepreneur? Keep to a budget? Take that dream vacation? Find your keys when you need them? Whatever your resolution is, it helps to be organized. The more I think about what…

  • Organizing Thoughts with the Bullet Journal Method

I remember the day I found out about the Bullet Journal method. I was looking over the shoulder of my boss as he watched Ryder Carroll’s video on his website at bulletjournal.com. Loving all things organizing, I was intrigued about this new-to-me method. At the end of the video, my boss turned it off and…

  • Organizing Principles vs Methods

I love to learn new things. I am always reading, researching, and trying out new methods for being organized. As a result, I have a variety of methods in my tool kit to find the best fit for any given situation. One thing, however, I have discovered in learning new methods is how important it…

  • Compass Living vs. Goal Living

I came across this concept of compass living years ago. The idea is to live more within a compass mindset than a goal mindset. What is the difference and how can we live with both? First let’s take a look at the common goal model. A goal (as defined on dictionary.com) is “the result or…

This is how it all started…

Maybe you have a secret life that few know about. Maybe you have even struggled with it your whole life. Being organized. You attended workshops, read books and blogs, listened to podcasts, and watched videos but everyone seemed naturally organized and gave you a list of things to do and how to keep your toilet bowl clean. None of which helped you. How can you get organized when you can’t stick to anything for long enough to see if it works or not? How can you keep going when nothing seems to make a dent?

You didn’t want a picture perfect home – you just want clean laundry in the closets, food on the table, a clean bathroom to use, bills paid on time, and a place to sit without moving a pile of stuff!

Maybe that is you, but it doesn’t have to be. That was me. My feeling of helplessness led me to research, learn, try, fail, try again, apply, question everything, and find answers to the real question of how do get myself to do the thing I already know I need to do. Or even what is it I’m supposed to be doing again?

I am still learning and growing and have come a long way. For many years now I’ve helped others sort, remove, and begin to establish ways to keep it organized. I feel for the women struggling with keeping their homes, literally behind closed doors! My heart goes out to those raised in an organized house and when they move out on their own can’t figure out why it’s not like Mom’s. Or even more often, raised in complete chaos and they don’t know how to change the patterns developed but really want to.

That’s why I write this blog. Patterns can be changed. You can learn the skills to be organized. You can develop good routines. Yes, I said it, routines! You just need some structure with a whole lot of variety thrown in. Then you will find that you are step by step making daily life doable . . . and fun!
