  • When to Container Shop for Better Organization

How many of you have ever thought, ‘If I just had that . . . fill in the blank . . then I would be organized.’? Whether it’s a pretty box, colorful planner, latest designer file system, or the newest electronic gadget, there is a part of us that hopes once we purchase the tool,…

  • Using Sales to Set up “Shop” from Home Storage

Everybody loves sales! The thrill of the hunt. The excitement of the find. The bragging afterwards. As the old proverb says, “Bad, bad,” says the buyer, but when he goes away, then he boasts. But what do we do with it once we bring it home? What about buyer’s remorse? Was it really a good…

  • Declutter the Noise

Yesterday, my phone glitched. It’s amazing how a thing like that can change your day. And it amazes me how much we now do on our phones. We buy and sell, pay bills, read the news, play games, connect with friends, do research, find directions, look up words, find new recipes, watch videos, listen to…

  • Think Organized

The other day my husband told me that I may not be writing in the way people expect. I am not showing how to clean out a drawer (which I may do one day), but I show people how to think organized. That got me, well . . . umm . . . thinking. For…

  • Proverbs 31 Handmaidens

The ever industrious woman of Proverbs 31 “rises while it is yet night and provides . . . portions for her maidens.” Whenever I have heard talks on this, the focus has been on the ‘rises while it is yet night’ part but my focus tends to run to the maidens. Wouldn’t that be amazing…

  • The Quirky Organizing Habit of the Hermit Crab

Many years ago, my children introduced me to a quirky organizer, the hermit crab. One day they decided to get two hermit crabs. After dutifully doing the research, they set up the tank. The sand was spread with care. Twigs and rocks were placed in the tank. Extra shells of various sizes were brought in…

This is how it all started…

Maybe you have a secret life that few know about. Maybe you have even struggled with it your whole life. Being organized. You attended workshops, read books and blogs, listened to podcasts, and watched videos but everyone seemed naturally organized and gave you a list of things to do and how to keep your toilet bowl clean. None of which helped you. How can you get organized when you can’t stick to anything for long enough to see if it works or not? How can you keep going when nothing seems to make a dent?

You didn’t want a picture perfect home – you just want clean laundry in the closets, food on the table, a clean bathroom to use, bills paid on time, and a place to sit without moving a pile of stuff!

Maybe that is you, but it doesn’t have to be. That was me. My feeling of helplessness led me to research, learn, try, fail, try again, apply, question everything, and find answers to the real question of how do get myself to do the thing I already know I need to do. Or even what is it I’m supposed to be doing again?

I am still learning and growing and have come a long way. For many years now I’ve helped others sort, remove, and begin to establish ways to keep it organized. I feel for the women struggling with keeping their homes, literally behind closed doors! My heart goes out to those raised in an organized house and when they move out on their own can’t figure out why it’s not like Mom’s. Or even more often, raised in complete chaos and they don’t know how to change the patterns developed but really want to.

That’s why I write this blog. Patterns can be changed. You can learn the skills to be organized. You can develop good routines. Yes, I said it, routines! You just need some structure with a whole lot of variety thrown in. Then you will find that you are step by step making daily life doable . . . and fun!
