  • Pockets of Organization

Many people who come to this blog may be close to the breaking point, overwhelmed with their feelings of being disorganized. That’s when I step in and give just a little advice – look for your pockets of organization. Sometimes we just need a little confidence that we can be organized and looking for the…

  • Organize Your Purse with G.R.A.C.E.

In Organizing with G.R.A.C.E. I introduced a 5-step system to organize anything. If you are having trouble applying it, that’s okay! What you need is practice. Let’s get practical! It’s time to clean out our purses, bags, briefcases, messenger bags, backpacks, and for those who use your car as your purse, your car. Here are…

  • Organizing with G.R.A.C.E.

Here is a simple 5-step plan that works to organize anything. It follows a simple acrostic – G.R.A.C.E. – to remind us that we need to give ourselves grace as we work through the organizing process. Here goes: Gather First, gather everything together that you want to organize. Keep it to one category! Or one…

  • Getting Ready to Be Organized

So you want to be organized? Well, if you have struggled with disorganization all of your life, or even just lately, know that becoming organized is not for the faint of heart. It takes motivation and will power and … Actually it doesn’t. It takes systems and skills (and maybe a little motivation). You will…

  • Why Be Organized?

Why do you want to be organized? Let’s analyze your motivation for being organized right up front. • How to Define “Being Organized”

To a consistently disorganized person, getting and staying organized is an ongoing process. If you struggle with figuring out how to go about getting organized, it helps to have a definition, an end goal, of what you are trying to do. I define “being organized” as giving yourself access to what you need when you…

This is how it all started…

Maybe you have a secret life that few know about. Maybe you have even struggled with it your whole life. Being organized. You attended workshops, read books and blogs, listened to podcasts, and watched videos but everyone seemed naturally organized and gave you a list of things to do and how to keep your toilet bowl clean. None of which helped you. How can you get organized when you can’t stick to anything for long enough to see if it works or not? How can you keep going when nothing seems to make a dent?

You didn’t want a picture perfect home – you just want clean laundry in the closets, food on the table, a clean bathroom to use, bills paid on time, and a place to sit without moving a pile of stuff!

Maybe that is you, but it doesn’t have to be. That was me. My feeling of helplessness led me to research, learn, try, fail, try again, apply, question everything, and find answers to the real question of how do get myself to do the thing I already know I need to do. Or even what is it I’m supposed to be doing again?

I am still learning and growing and have come a long way. For many years now I’ve helped others sort, remove, and begin to establish ways to keep it organized. I feel for the women struggling with keeping their homes, literally behind closed doors! My heart goes out to those raised in an organized house and when they move out on their own can’t figure out why it’s not like Mom’s. Or even more often, raised in complete chaos and they don’t know how to change the patterns developed but really want to.

That’s why I write this blog. Patterns can be changed. You can learn the skills to be organized. You can develop good routines. Yes, I said it, routines! You just need some structure with a whole lot of variety thrown in. Then you will find that you are step by step making daily life doable . . . and fun!
